You eat with your eyes first

Hey everyone 😊 I thought for a really long time what my first blog post should be about…

My favorite recipe? Some advice for a healthy and diversified lifestyle? How dangerous the consumption of too much sugar could be?

However, then I decided I should talk about something that got very important for me over the last few months:

You eat with your eyes first!”

I want to talk about the importance of arranging your meal in an attractive way – even if you’re eating by yourself.

I’ve always been the person who cooked something quick and easy– I used to throw together some veggies and herbs, mix it up with rice or couscous – ready and on to eating it. I didn’t care what the final product looked like! I literally just arranged the plates in a nice way, when I had friends over for dinner or a nice romantic evening planned. Cooking for just myself, it didn’t really matter what my food would look like, right? – WRONG!

One day, while cooking, it occurred to me: “Why don’t I deserve an attractive meal when I am on my own?”

Since this day I started to arrange my meals more attentively. I really thought about which colors would look good together, how to make my salad look a little bit more colorful, which herbs or plants I could put on the top of my meal, and so on.

And the funny thing is, since then my meals have gotten so much more delicious! Like for example when I was preparing a salad with lettuce, cucumber, peppers and goat cheese – it was a really tasty recipe but, looking at it, I didn’t look forward to eating all these green veggies at all!  So I checked my fridge and found some strawberries!

At first, it sounds a little weird to mix fruits in with a salad but it didn’t just change the colors, but also the flavor! It ended up being delicious – for my tummy as well as for my eyes.

Now I am much more creative in preparing my meals! Even if sometimes the combinations sound a little bit crazy – like this salad in the picture below: Lettuce, kiwi, apple, olives,, asparagus and cranberries – most of the times (:P) it ends up being absolutely delicious! It’s one of my favorite things about cooking, that you can vary as much as you like with the ingredients. Pouring your heart into it, you’ll end up with a special dish with your personal note!

I hope you enjoy your meals today!

See you soon 🙂

  1. I agree with this wholeheartedly!
I LOVE food!! Not technically a foodie (as much as I would love to be!), but an avid appreciator of all things food. 😉 I’m always wanting to try new recipes and cuisines and I’m very rarely disappointed… Unless it looks like glop, that is. LOL
